In a modern fleet, fuel consumption control is one of the key factors in reducing operating costs and preventing theft. This is especially relevant for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and fleets using gasoline engines.

One of the effective and relatively inexpensive solutions is fuel control based on injector pulses using the Bitrek BI Nozzle sensor.

How does it work?

Modern gasoline engines with electronic injection are controlled by an ECU (engine control unit), which sends short electrical pulses to the injectors. The duration and frequency of these pulses are directly proportional to the amount of fuel injected.

The Bitrek BI Nozzle sensor works contactlessly – it reads these pulses without interfering with the vehicle’s wiring. The device converts the input signals from the injectors into normalized output pulses, the number of which is proportional to the actual fuel consumption.

The data is transmitted to the Bitrek GPS tracker, which records fuel consumption in real time (with an accuracy of up to a second).

Advantages of the Bitrek solution

  • High accuracy for gasoline and LPG engines.
  • Simple and quick installation – no need to cut wires or interfere with the fuel system.
  • Preservation of the car warranty thanks to the non-contact method.
  • Low power consumption (about 30 mA at 12 V).
  • Reliability – operating temperature from −40°C to +85°C, compact dimensions.
  • Ability to detect fuel system malfunctions (injector anomalies).

For passenger cars (4 injectors), 2 sensors are usually installed (per pair of injectors). For more powerful engines, the number of sensors is selected individually.

Where is it used?

This solution is ideal for:

  • Taxis and delivery services.
  • Corporate passenger car fleets.
  • Light trucks and minibuses.
  • Company cars.

Limitations of the method

As with any technology, there are certain features:

  • Initial calibration is required for accurate conversion of pulses into liters.
  • The system does not record fuel filling and draining (for this it is better to use capacitive fuel level sensors Bitrek BI FLSensor).
  • Works only with gasoline and gas engines. For diesel engines, other control methods are used.

Conclusion

Bitrek BI Nozzle is a simple, reliable and affordable solution for accurate fuel consumption control on gasoline vehicles. It allows fleets to significantly reduce costs, identify inefficient use of equipment and minimize the risk of theft.

Combining this sensor with other Bitrek GPS equipment, you get a powerful tool for fleet management.
