RELIABILITY EVEN WITHOUT GPS: HOW WE WORK WITH CAN BUS
In today’s conditions, when data transmission can be interrupted due to external factors – in particular, the influence of electronic warfare (EW) – it is important to have a system that does not depend solely on GPS. That is why we have implemented the ability to read and transfer information from the vehicle’s CAN bus directly into our monitoring system.
The CAN bus (Controller Area Network) is a digital bus that modern cars use to exchange technical data between control units. We connect to it via a GPS tracker, and the received indicators are sent to the server and displayed in your application.
Data that can be read (depending on the car):
- Mileage (from odometer);
- Fuel level and consumption;
- Engine temperature, fuel, coolant, etc.;
- Engine speed (RPM);
- Speed from CAN (more accurate than GPS in the city);
- Accelerator pedal position;
- Ignition status;
- Door, trunk, seat belt status;
- Parking brake, headlights, air conditioner status, etc.
